Tofu Chocolate Pie or Mousse

Love chocolate mousse or whipped chocolate pie?  But without all the cream, calories, and sugar?  I have just the thing for you, right here.  And with summer right around the corner, the deal is even sweeter.  This chocolate pie clocks in at just 150 calories per slice (out of a pie cut into 8 slices).  Upon tasting the finished product, you’ll be stunned its made from tofu.  Light, sweet, decadent, chocolatey, this one satisfies and satiates that chocolate hankering anytime youre feeling it, but without the overload of calories, fat, and sugar that a typical chocolate pie/mousse does.

This recipe is gluten/grain free, dairy free, and very low in sugar.

Without further ado, here is how to make this light, lovely, and delicious chocolate mousse/pie:


12-15 ounces of firm tofu

1 heaping tablespoon of cocoa powder (I used Hershey’s dark chocolate)

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons of almond milk

1.5 cup of chocolate chips, melted in the microwave (I used the brand Enjoy Life, which are vegan.  Melt them at 50% power, so as not to burn the chocolate).

2-3 tablespoons of maple syrup

  1. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave.
  2. Drain the tofu.
  3. Toss everything into a food processor and blend until smooth (about one minute, ish).
  4. Spoon into a pie pan.  You could of course, make a crust if you like.  This may chance the recipe to include gluten or more sugar, depending on what you use.  But get creative if you like!  Also, this will change the calorie count per slice too.  However, I find it delicious without.
  5. Let the pie/mousse (whichever form you choose) sit in the fridge for a couple hours to set.  Though you can enjoy and eat it whenever you like, but for a firmer pie, wait several hours of chilling before eating.
